Skylight Calendar alternative

Skylight’s best tricks, without buying a screen

Skylight Calendar is a wall display, and its smartest features — turning a photo of a flyer into events, meal planning, a chore chart with rewards — come with Calendar Plus at $79 a year. Kithful does those things on the phones your family already carries, and every feature is on the free plan.

Skylight Calendar Plus ($79/year): Magic Import with Sidekick, meal planning, rewards, a chore chart, syncing online calendars, and a photo screensaver.

The catch: it runs on a Skylight display you buy first, and it lives on one wall.

What Kithful does that Skylight Plus is known for

Snap a flyer or schedule, get calendar events

Photograph a school calendar, a sports schedule or a party invite, or upload the PDF. Kithful reads the dates and times into events you check before they’re saved (how it works). Pasting the coach’s text (“practice Thursday 6pm”) works too.

Chores with rewards

Kid Mode is a big-button screen where kids tap “I did it!”, a grown-up approves, and allowance or screen time adds up. Chores can take turns between kids. Lock a spare tablet to Kid Mode so it can’t reach the grown-up side. Chore ideas by age are built in.

Meal planning and one grocery list

Plan the week, keep your own recipes (type them or snap grandma’s card), browse a recipe library, and one tap puts what you’re missing on the shared list, sorted by aisle.

Everyone’s calendars in one place, in their own color

Connect Google, iCloud or Outlook calendars by their share link, each tagged to a person (step by step), in one color per person. The whole family calendar can also show up in each phone’s own calendar app.

Things Skylight doesn’t do

What’s different — honestly

There’s no wall display. If the always-on kitchen screen is what you want, Skylight is built for that. Kithful runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers; an old tablet on the counter works.

No photo screensaver or email import. Things come in by photo, PDF, pasted text or typing.

It’s in early access. We’re inviting families a few at a time.

Questions

Is there a Skylight Calendar alternative without buying hardware?

Yes. Kithful runs on the phones, tablets and computers you already have. It reads schedules and flyers from a photo into calendar events, runs a chore chart with rewards, and plans meals, with every feature on the free plan.

Can Kithful turn a photo into calendar events like Skylight’s Magic Import?

Yes. Snap a photo or upload a PDF of a schedule, flyer or invite and Kithful reads the dates and times into events you confirm before they’re saved. Pasting a text message works too.

Does Kithful have a chore chart with rewards?

Yes. Kids mark chores done in Kid Mode, a grown-up approves, and money or screen-time rewards add up. Chores can rotate between kids by day or by week.

Can I use Kithful on a kitchen tablet?

Yes. Open Kithful in the tablet’s browser and add it to the home screen. Kid Mode can be locked to that tablet so kids can’t reach the grown-up side.

How much does Kithful cost?

Every feature is free, with 30 photo/PDF scans a month; typing and pasting are unlimited. Kithful Plus removes the scan limit for $39.99 a year or $4.99 a month per household, and new households start with 14 days of Plus, no card needed.
