Family organizer apps compared
Family organizer apps compared: prices and who each one is for
There’s no single best family app; it depends on what your family juggles. Below are the main options with prices checked on each company’s own site on Oct 2, 2026, and a plain line on who each one suits. Kithful is our app, so we’ve kept its entry to facts and said where others fit better.
Who it’s for: parents choosing a shared calendar or family organizer and wanting real prices in one place.
Who it isn’t for: anyone after a full review of each app. This is a side-by-side, so try the free versions before you decide.
How to choose
- Name the one job that hurts most. A calendar nobody checks? Groceries? Chores? Two homes? Pick the app that’s best at that, not the one with the longest feature list.
- Check every phone in the house. An iPhone-only app won’t work for an Android parent or a grandparent on a tablet.
- Count how things get in. If you’d be typing every practice and appointment by hand, you’ll stop. Look for paste, photo, or a link to the calendars you already use.
- Try the free version for a week with the whole family before paying. The best app is the one everyone actually opens.

The free options, honestly
Looking for a free family organizer? Here’s what “free” actually gets you with each:
- Google Calendar, Apple Calendar: a full shared calendar, no ads, nothing else.
- Kithful: every feature, no ads; the limit is 30 photo or PDF scans a month (typing and pasting are unlimited).
- FamilyWall: most features, including the meal planner and family locator; Premium mainly adds storage.
- TimeTree: the shared calendar, which is what most families use it for.
- Cozi: calendar, lists and recipes with ads, and you can only add events for the next 30 days.
Calendara has a 7-day preview, then a subscription. Skylight’s smart features and OurFamilyWizard are paid.
The free ones: Google Calendar and Apple Calendar
If all you need is a shared calendar, start here. Both are free with no ads, put events on everyone’s phone, and handle reminders well. Google works across iPhone and Android; Apple’s Family Sharing gives an all-Apple family a shared calendar automatically. What they don’t do is the rest of family life: no grocery list, no chores, no turning a paper schedule into events. One catch in Google Calendar: a shared calendar’s color is a personal setting, so everyone has to pick the same colors on their own account (more in how to color-code a family calendar).
Kithful
Kithful is a family calendar that also handles the household: groceries, this week’s sales at your stores, recipes and meal plans, kids’ chores with rewards, to-dos (with a ready-made home maintenance schedule) and warranties. Most things go in from a photo or a pasted text: a practice schedule, a receipt, a weekly ad. You check what it read before anything is saved. Every feature is on the free plan; the free plan’s only limit is 30 photo or PDF scans a month.
Pick something else if you want an app from the App Store or Google Play (Kithful runs in your phone’s browser and adds to the home screen), a wall display, two-way editing of your work calendar (Kithful shows a work calendar read-only), or tools for co-parenting records.
Cozi
The best-known family organizer: a shared calendar, shopping and to-do lists, and recipes. Cozi Free shows ads and lets you add events for the next 30 days. Cozi Gold ($39 a year) removes ads and unlocks the full calendar; Cozi Max ($79 a year) adds AI features such as turning emails into events. Good if you want something proven that the whole family can learn quickly. Moving from Cozi to Kithful.
TimeTree
A clean shared calendar that works for families, couples or teams. The free version covers most families; Premium ($4.49 a month or $44.99 a year) adds extras on top of the calendar. It’s a calendar first, so lists and chores aren’t its focus.
FamilyWall
A family hub with a lot in the free version: shared calendar, shopping and to-do lists, meal planner, recipe box, budget tracker, family locator and messenger, with Google and Outlook sync. Premium ($4.99 a month or $44.99 a year) mainly adds storage. A good fit if location sharing and family chat matter to you.
Calendara
An iPhone app built around turning photos of flyers and schedules into events, with a color per family member, shared lists and two-way Google Calendar sync. There’s a 7-day preview and then a subscription ($4.99 a month or $39.99 a year) for the whole family. It’s the closest app to Kithful’s calendar side; it’s iPhone-only and doesn’t cover grocery sales, a pantry or chore rewards.
Skylight
A wall-mounted touchscreen calendar for the kitchen. Its smart features (photo import, meal planning, a chore chart with rewards) come with Calendar Plus at $79 a year, on top of buying the display. Great if your family lives by a screen on the wall. The phone-only way to do the same things.
OurFamilyWizard
Built for separated parents: a shared custody calendar, a record of messages, and expense tracking. Each parent has their own account, from $110 a year (Basic) up to $299.88 a year (Max). If you’re co-parenting across two homes and need the paper trail, this is the specialist.
Gone or shutting down: OurHome, Maple and Mealime
OurHome, the free chores-and-rewards app, still shows up in AI answers and older “best of” lists, but when we checked on Oct 2, 2026 it was no longer in the US App Store or Google Play and its website wasn’t loading. (An unrelated app with a similar name, “OurHome by Elusios”, is from a different developer.) For chores with rewards, see Kithful’s chore chart and our list of chores by age.
Maple closes on Dec 31, 2026 and Mealime on Oct 21, 2026. If you use either, export or screenshot what you need first: moving from Maple, moving from Mealime.
